Mr. Atila Zekioglu
Principal, ARUP, Los Angeles
Atila is a Principal with Arup in Los Angeles. As an industry-renowned structural and seismic specialist, he collaborates with architects to direct the development of cost-effective engineering solutions for some of the firm’s most technically challenging projects.
Atila specializes in earthquake-resistant analysis and the design of structures in structural steel, reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry and timber. Following the damage observed during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, Atila was responsible for the development of an alternate steel moment connection. He led the analytical and experimental work in the development of the “reduced beam section” concept. The six full-scale specimens successfully tested at UC San Diego in 1995 were the first ones to be tested in the US.
